Every year millions of people move to new houses and
apartments. Fortunately, most of the moves happen without any problem. And this
is because most homeowners hire the services of quality movers and packers.
Follow these steps to hire reliable or professional packers and movers.
1. Moving Inventory
Reputable movers check your inventory and storage places.
Typically, the weight of your belongings is of the utmost importance when
estimating the total cost of the service. After all, you don't want to pay more
than what you have allocated for the move.
2. Don't Make a Large Upfront Deposit
If your mover asks you to deposit a large amount before
the service begins, look for another mover. Reputable service providers won't
ask you for a large deposit. If you have to pay upfront, make sure to use your
credit card. This will help you protect you from any fraudulent activity.
3. Work with a Licensed Provider
Some service providers use different names to do their
business. Working with them is not a good idea. What you need to do is find out
if the service provider has a license and a valid local address. Ideally, the
service provider should be insured.
4. Get References
It is a good idea to get recommendations from your
friends and family. You can also get references from your local association.
You may also want to ask your mover for references.
In other words, you should ask them for a list of a few
customers they served during the past three months. You can then make a call to
those customers to find out about their experience working with the provider.
If clients are satisfied with the services of that company, you can go ahead
and hire that provider.
5. Discuss the Packing Costs
You can pack your stuff yourself to save costs. However,
keep in mind that the mover won't be responsible for any damage caused to your
stuff while you are packing. But if you ask the mover to pack your stuff, you
will have to pay for it. Because you are paying for moving, they will charge
you for packing material, labor and time. Make sure you keep an eye on the
workers while they are packing your stuff. This way the packers will be more
careful.
6. Ask about Extra Fees
If you live on the 5th floor of a building, you will have
to pay extra for the moving services as the workers will have to put in more
time and effort to move your stuff. Therefore, it's a good idea to discuss this
matter with your mover so you can find out about the additional fees.
